KINGSTON, Jamaica—Thirty-two people were killed in 27 fatal crashes during the month of December 2025 according to the Island Traffic Authority (ITA).

There were five multi-vehicle collisions during the month which resulted in 10 fatalities.

Three parishes – Westmoreland, St Elizabeth and St Catherine recorded five deaths each, while Manchester had four fatalities during the month.

St James and St Andrew each recorded two fatalities while Hanover, Trelawny, St Mary and St Thomas each recorded one death. There were no road user deaths recorded in Kingston and Portland last December according to the ITA.

It said fatalities increased by 14 per cent in December 2025 when compared to 2024 while fatal crashes were up 17 per cent.

Private motor vehicle drivers accounted for 28 per cent or nine fatalities in December 2025. This was an increase of 125 per cent or five deaths among this category of road users when compared to December 2024.

Motorcyclists accounted for 22 per cent or seven fatalities; pedestrians also accounted for 22 per cent or seven fatalities during the month under review; while private motor vehicle passengers accounted for 13 per cent or four deaths.

The ITA said eight elderly persons died in seven fatal crashes last December, a significant 700 per cent increase among this category of road users.

It said vulnerable road users – pedestrians, pedalcyclists, motorcyclists and pillion passengers accounted for 47 per cent combined, of all road users killed during the month.
