Woman charged with murder after death of former KC student-athlete

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A woman has been charged with murder following the death of former Kingston College student-athlete Kevaughn Goldson in the United States on Monday.

Goldson, 23, a former standout who represented Kingston College in both track and football, was at the time of his death a senior sprinter at Lincoln University of Missouri.

In an ABC17NEWS article, Cole County prosecutors charged fellow Lincoln University sprinter Denita Jackson with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in relation to Goldson’s death. Cole County Prosecutor Locke Thompson identified Goldson as the victim.

According to ABC17NEWS, court documents state that Jackson and Goldson were involved in a romantic relationship and had a history of domestic violence incidents. The latest dispute reportedly stemmed from a missing bottle of cologne, with Jackson allegedly telling police she believed Goldson was having an affair with one of her roommates.

The report said Jackson told investigators she returned home shortly after 1:00 am on Monday and later used a hairclip to unlock a roommate’s door, where she allegedly found Goldson and the roommate in bed, fully dressed.

Police said a confrontation ensued during which Jackson allegedly stabbed Goldson in the back and chest. Officers responded after Jackson called 911.

Goldson was taken to the Capital Region Emergency Room and later airlifted to University Hospital, where he died during surgery.

Jackson was arrested and booked into the Cole County jail on Monday. As of Tuesday morning, no court hearing had been set.
