There is no concrete release date, no online countdown. Instead, reggae artiste Warrior King is moving with intent and purpose as he readies his next body of work.

Outlining that not every project runs on a tight deadline, especially one as important as his forthcoming album, the singer says he is more focused on positioning himself for a local resurgence – one built on patience and a sharpened sense of where his music is headed.

“I have a song out now with Busy Signal called Moonlight, and that’s doing really well, and it’s actually a single from my upcoming album called Resurgence. The album title says all there is to say about my intentions for the entertainment scene this year,” he told the Jamaica Observer’s Splash. “Everywhere I go people always ask, ‘Warrior King, wah happen? Why we can’t hear from you more often? We need some more music.’ Dem say the music scene set a way, and dem need some a my vibes back fi balance the thing. And so that’s what I’m going to do with this project.”

Describing the upcoming album as his “best body of work to date”, the entertainer says his confidence is not rooted in hype but in growth. Rather than chasing trends, Warrior King says the focus has been on depth, ensuring every song carries meaning.

“All the songs are finished. There are about 11 songs with about five features, Busy Signal being one of them. I also have Konshens, Etana, and more. The industry needs a balance, because too much of one thing is good for nothing. So when we come wid di cultural music and the lovers’ kinda vibe, it balances out creation, and the youths dem mind,” he said. “My songs hold purpose. Every song I’ve recorded is like a chapter of my life. I try to be unique and creative when I decide to share those moments with my fans, because we’re all more alike than we think. Sometimes my experiences aren’t just unique to me, and when I sing about them, I may be healing someone else in the process.”

Central to that philosophy, the singer believes, is authenticity. Arguing that remaining true to oneself is what often separates mediocre content from exceptional music, the singer is adamant that sincerity is what gives the music longevity. Looking back at his own catalogue, Warrior King says he has produced songs that not only resonated upon release but have endured the test of time.

“I don’t have any formula or anything, but what I always try to do is be as authentic as possible and as honest as possible, so the words that come out of my mouth, they’re not just for entertainment purposes, they mean everything to me,” he said. “That and the blessings of the ‘Most High keep me fresh and keep me going for years and will keep doing so for years to come. Songs like Virtuous Woman, no matter how many years pass, that song will always get a good response from the crowd; and it’s over 25 years old. Once you are true to you, the songs will be classics.”
