Cornwall College on course for double in ISSA rural football

Cornwall College on course for double in ISSA rural football

ST JAMES, Jamaica — Cornwall College qualified for both semi-finals in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Rural Area Junior football competition after wins over Rusea’s High in the Burger King Under-14 and Old Harbour High in the Mighty Malt Under-16 as the quarterfinals came to an end on Thursday.

Cornwall College topped their respective zones, both on seven points after beating Rusea’s High 3-1 in the Under-14 and Old Harbour High 2-0 in the Under-16, both games played at Cornwall College.

They have been joined in the top four by Belair High, William Knibb Memorial and Garvey Maceo High in the Under-14 and Glenmuir High, Clarendon College and Rusea’s High in the Under-16.

Belair High were runners up in group one on six points after they eliminated last season’s champions Glenmuir High, beating them 3-1 in Mandeville.

William Knibb Memorial edged Garvey Maceo High on goal-difference, by one goal for group two honours, both ending on seven points.

William Knibb Memorial beat Manchester High 2-1 in Mandeville to finish with a plus-four goal-difference and Garvey Maceo blanked Titchfield High 2-0 to finish with a plus-three goal-difference.

In the Under-16 competition, Cornwall College followed up a 3-0 win over Glenmuir High on Monday with a 2-0 win over Old Harbour on Thursday, with Mekhi Foster and Demarco Finnikin scoring in the first half.

Glenmuir High rebounded to beat Munro College 3-1 to take second place in group one on six points.

Clarendon College who were held 0-0 by Central High, topped group two on five points, one more than Rusea’s High, who also drew 0-0 away to Manchester High who finished on three points.

Under-14 Results:

Cornwall College — 3, Rusea’s High — 1

Belair High — 3, Glenmuir High — 1

Manchester High — 1, William Knibb Memorial — 2

Garvey Maceo — 2, Titchfield High — 0

Under-16 Results:

Cornwall College — 2, Old Harbour High — 0

Manchester High — 0, Rusea’s High — 0

Glenmuir High — 3, Munro College — 1

Clarendon College — 0, Central High — 0
