#SAVETHEDATE
While considering guests’ availability and travel needs is a priority, ensuring the chosen date is also deeply meaningful to both the bride and groom remains essential.

#SAVETHEDATE

One of the first big decisions couples make after getting engaged is choosing their wedding date. While it may seem like a simple step, your date can influence everything from venue availability and guest attendance to travel costs and even the overall atmosphere of your celebration. A thoughtfully chosen date sets the tone for the entire event and can make planning significantly smoother. Before selecting a date, couples should consider both practical factors and personal meaning.

Start With the Season You Love

Many couples begin by deciding what time of year feels right. Seasonality can influence décor, wardrobe, menu choices, and the overall ambiance of the celebration. A spring wedding often feels fresh and romantic, with blooming florals and lighter colour palettes. Summer weddings tend to embrace vibrant celebrations and outdoor venues, while the later weddings are loved for their rich colours and cosy atmosphere. Winter weddings, on the other hand, can feel elegant and dramatic, often incorporating candlelight, deeper tones, and formal styling. For destination weddings, weather is especially important. Couples should consider climate, hurricane seasons, or peak tourist periods when choosing a location and time of year.

Consider the Meaning Behind the Date

Many couples choose a date that holds personal significance. This could be the anniversary of when you first met, your first date, or another meaningful milestone in your relationship. Others may choose a date that is simply easy to remember, which can make anniversaries and celebrations in the years ahead a little more special.

The Most Popular Wedding Dates Internationally

Across the world, certain wedding dates become extremely popular each year. These often fall on easy-to-remember patterns or symbolic numbers.

Dates such as 10/10, 11/11, and 2/22 have gained popularity because of their symmetry. Couples often find these dates romantic and memorable. Palindromes — dates that read the same forwards and backwards — also attract attention. Examples include dates like 2/2/22 or 12/12/21, which many couples view as lucky or meaningful. Beyond numerology, late spring and early autumn Saturdays tend to be the most popular wedding dates internationally. These seasons typically offer comfortable weather and beautiful natural backdrops, making them ideal for both indoor and outdoor celebrations. Because of this popularity, venues and top vendors often book 12 to 18 months in advance for prime dates.

Are Sunday Weddings Becoming More Popular?

While Saturday has traditionally been the most popular wedding day, Sunday weddings are increasingly common, particularly for destination weddings or venues with limited availability. However, there are several advantages to a Sunday celebration. Venues and vendors sometimes offer lower rates, and couples may find greater availability when planning within shorter timelines. Sunday weddings also create a slightly more relaxed atmosphere, which can work beautifully for garden weddings, brunch-style receptions, or destination celebrations where guests are already travelling. However, couples should consider their guest list. Some guests may need to travel home or return to work on Monday, so earlier ceremony times or a slightly shorter reception can make attendance easier.

Should You Choose a Holiday Weekend?

Holiday weekend weddings can be appealing because guests often already have additional time off. Celebrating during a long weekend may make travel easier and can allow couples to extend the celebration into a full weekend experience. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. Travel costs and hotel rates may be higher during holiday periods, and some guests may already have family traditions or plans during that time. If you do choose a holiday weekend, it is helpful to send save-the-dates early so guests can plan accordingly.

Think About Your Guests — But Also Yourselves

While it is thoughtful to consider your guests’ schedules and travel needs, couples should also remember that this day ultimately celebrates their relationship. Choose a date that feels meaningful and exciting for you. Whether it falls on a traditional Saturday, a relaxed Sunday, or a symbolic calendar date, what matters most is that the day reflects the beginning of your next chapter together.

A Final Piece of Advice

Once you have chosen your date, try to secure your venue first before finalising other plans. Venue availability often dictates the final date, especially for popular seasons. Your wedding date is more than just a number on the calendar. It becomes the day you celebrate year after year — a reminder of the moment you promised your lives to each other.

Choosing it thoughtfully makes that memory even more special.
