Mt Pleasant still a point away from qualifying for JPL play-offs

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Mt Pleasant FA moved to within a point of securing an early play-off spot in the Jamaica Premier League after coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Harbour View in their third round game played at Drax Hall on Wednesday.

The three-time finalist needed a win to join early qualifiers Montego Bay United (MBU) in the play-offs but had to be content with a point and must wait until Sunday to have another shot at early qualification.

Mt Pleasant closed the gap on leaders MBU, who were edged 1-0 by Arnett Gardens, and remained on 65 points, four more than the St Ann-based team. Three teams are on 56 points— Racing United, Portmore United, and Waterhouse — with defending champions Cavalier SC in sixth place.

Racing United played out a 0-0 draw against Dunbeholden FC who fell to ninth place; Portmore United and Cavalier were also goalless while Waterhouse clipped Tivoli Gardens 1-0.

Molynes United crept out of the relegation zone with a massive 9-0 whipping of Spanish Town Police while Treasure Beach joined them in the “drop zone” after losing 3-0 to Chapelton Maroons.

At Drax Hall, Trayvone Reid scored his 20th goal of the season to give Harbour View the lead in the 25th minute before Raheem Edwards scored his 17th in the 54th minute to give Mt Pleasant a point.

At the Anthony Spaulding Complex, Kevaughn Wilson scored in the fourth minute as Arnett Gardens moved to within three points of the play-offs on 46 points.

Chapelton trail Arnett on goal difference after snapping a three-game winless run by beating Treasure Beach who are now winless in seven games.

Zhaine Pinnock scored a brace, netting in the 16th and 41st minutes before Leaunghn Williams added a third in the 90th minute.

Kymani Campbell’s 29th-minute goal was enough for Waterhouse to beat Tivoli Gardens and extend their unbeaten run to four games.

Samson Oke and Tyrique Wilson, who was a second-half substitute, both scored braces as Molynes United recorded their biggest-ever JPL win, hammering Spanish Town Police.

Rashawn Livingstone, Nicholas Nelson, Odane Murray, Zubeiru Suleiman and Shevon Miller also scored for Molynes United.

Results:

Treasure Beach — 0, Chapelton Maroons — 3

Dunbeholden FC — 0, Racing United — 0

Portmore United — 0, Cavalier S — 0

Spanish Town Police — 0, Molynes United — 9

Arnett Gardens FC — 1, Montego Bay United — 0

Waterhouse FC — 1, Tivoli Gardens — 0

Mt Pleasant FA — 1, Harbour View — 1
