Beres Hammond’s The Ultimate Collection hits silver in the UK
For the first time in his illustrious career Beres Hammond has earned certification for his music. Can’t Stop A Man: The Ultimate Collection, a 39-song compilation released by VP Records in 2003, was on April 3 certified silver in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry for digital sales and streaming equivalent exceeding 60,000 units.
The set features hit songs spanning the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s.
In an exclusive interview with the Jamaica Observer, the storied singer said he is humbled that his music continues to transcend generations.
“I am greatly humbled that all generations enjoy my music. Everyone knows my music is universal and appreciated by all,” he stated.
Can’t Stop A Man: The Ultimate Collection kicks off with Hammond’s 1977 #1 soul hit One Step Ahead, which was produced by Willie Lindo. Other #1 hits include Groovy Little Thing, What One Dance Can Do, She Loves Me Now (which peaked at #92 on the UK Singles Chart on April 12 1986), Tempted to Touch, Putting Up Resistance, Rock Away, They Gonna Talk, Come Down Father, Full Attention, Who Say (featuring Buju Banton), Double Trouble, Step Aside, Love Means Never to Say I’m Sorry, and No Disturb Sign, which was released by Elektra Records.
Beres Hammond, who tours the United Kingdom from time to time, spoke about his following in that country.
“My fan base in the United Kingdom is enormous. I am grateful to my family as I connect with my fans whom I love as family,” he said. His next performance in the UK will be on May 25 at City Splash Festival, scheduled for Brockwell Park in Brixton.
He is scheduled to start a world tour later this year. It will also make stops in the United States and the Eastern Caribbean.
