WATCH: ‘Greybeard’, beloved retired police detective, laid to rest
CLARENDON, Jamaica— Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), family and friends gathered on Saturday at the Grace Baptist Church on Sewell Crescent in May Pen, Clarendon, to bid farewell to retired Detective Inspector George Washington Williams, affectionately known as “Greybeard.”
Williams served the JCF for more than 37 years before retiring in 2014. He died on February 2, 2026, in the United Kingdom.
His remains were interred in the family plot in Somerset, Manchester.

Commander for the Area 3 Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP0 Christopher Phillips, who delivered a tribute on behalf of Commissioner of Police Kevin Blake, lauded Williams for his nearly four decades of service.
“He diligently and passionately served the people of Jamaica and Kingston Western, St Thomas Criminal Investigation Bureau, Security Intelligence Branch, Narcotics, Clarendon, Manchester, St Catherine’s South, and the Major Investigation Task Force,” ACP Phillips said.

He added that the retired detective inspector received several accolades during his career, including 73 commendations, the Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct in 1995, and the first part of the Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct in 2006.
