Mighty Gully romps to Mabrouk Sprint Trophy win in style
Mighty Gully made it look easy at the races on Sunday.
The four-year-old bay filly led from gate to wire to win the $1.25-million Mabrouk Sprint Trophy at Caymanas Park.
Trained by Robert Pearson and ridden by Tevin Foster, she took the five-furlong (1,000m) straight Overnight Allowance contest by 5¼ lengths in a quick 57.4 seconds.
Breaking from post one, Mighty Gully jumped straight to the front. She held her spot early, then kicked clear at the dummy rails. No one got close after that.
It was her first win from three starts this season. The daughter of The Buzz Nightmare and Lady Exotic won ahead of Another One (Raddesh Roman) and RicoRicoRico (Jaheim Anderson).
Apprentice jockey Richie Shakes was not to be left out of the celebration party as he rode a career best four winners on the nine-race card.
His winners were Prince Daniel in the third race for trainer Michael Cain, BadBadTanesha in the sixth race for trainer Robert Ffrench, Slam Sharpe in the seventh race for trainer Michael Marlowe, and Austoa in the eighth race for trainer Fiyznahum Williams.
Racing is scheduled to continue on Saturday and Sunday.
