MONTEGO BAY, St James — A St James chef, who was charged with murder based partially on evidence found through the work of a police dog, will remain in custody until the matter returns to court on June 24.

Ezroy Allen appeared before the parish court last Tuesday in relation to the fatal stabbing of 38-year-old hotel worker Kadene Beswick. The matter was mentioned before Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton.

As outlined in police reports, around 12:30 am on May 1, officers were called to a residence in Catherine Hall, St James, where they found Beswick lying on her back with multiple stab wounds. Investigators immediately launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the killing, with detectives conducting interviews and using forensic methods to gather evidence.

A key development came with assistance from the Jamaica Constabulary Force Canine Division. A trained police dog was used to help locate items believed to be critical to the investigation, including a weapon suspected to have been used in the attack, as well as clothing linked to the accused. Following further investigations Allen was taken into custody and later charged with murder.

On Tuesday he appeared in court without legal representation, and no bail application was made on his behalf during the hearing.
