Nesbeth turns grief into an urgent plea on ‘One Day’

In his latest single, One Day, Nesbeth draws on personal loss to remind listeners to show love to their loved ones while they still can.

Released on October 9, One Day draws on losses that have touched the reggae singer’s closest family: his mother Gloria Wright; wife Ann-Marie Elliott Nesbeth; sister Sophia Nesbeth; and younger brother Anthony Brown Jr.

The self-produced recording confronts a stark certainty—that the world will one day carry on without us—and asks what we intend to do with the time before then.

“One Day, came from reflecting on how fragile life is and how, eventually, a day will come when the world continues without us. My own experience with loss has made that reality deeply personal,” he said.

From that painful understanding comes a message for the living. Affection, Nesbeth suggests, should never be left waiting for a more convenient moment.

“Don’t keep putting off the words you need to say or the love you need to show. We have today, and we should make it count.”

Carrying that conviction into the studio required more than a polished vocal. He wanted listeners to recognise their own grief in the performance, with each line bearing the weight of its meaning.

“When you’re singing about loss, time, and the people who may not always be there, you have to connect with the meaning in every line,” he explained.

Away from the microphone, grief can arrive without warning. A familiar place, a sudden memory or news he instinctively wants to share can make an absence feel newly raw.

“I try to give myself space to feel it, remember the love and lean on my faith and the people close to me. The pain may come back, but so does the gratitude for having shared that love.”

Time has altered his relationship with those losses, rather than diminished the people behind them.

“I’ve learned that time doesn’t erase the loss or make the person mean less to you. It teaches you how to carry the loss differently.”

Produced through his Treble Fitz Productions, One Day allowed Nesbeth to shape the recording around that emotional purpose.

“I wanted every part of the production to serve the song’s message,” Nesbeth mused.

“I want One Day to reach anyone who has experienced loss or needed a reminder to live fully while they’re living,” he added.

An official video is in the works.
