Insightful editorial
Friday, August 17, 2012
Dear Editor,
I wish to thank and commend you for your insightful editorial in the August 16 edition of the Jamaica Observer.
The issue of an outdated Parliament and the Flat Bridge reflects my own thoughts. I cannot understand why Jamaicans are so hostile to a new Parliament building being built. I understand that we are economically and fiscally challenged at this time, but Gordon House is a disgrace!
I believe emotions get in the way as people don’t understand that a Parliament building is not about the 63 MPs but about pride in us as a nation showing off a notewrothy structure and hallowed place to highlight our country's vibrant democracy. It should be a place of pride, and dare I say even a tourist attraction?
As for the continued use of Flat Bridge, yes, the Gorge is a great beauty spot but not practical, and certainly an expensive alternative route to the north coast. This is where Highway 2000 should have concentrated on first.
