100 DCs for tourist areas to graduate Tuesday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of National Security, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), says it will on Tuesday, July 19 induct 100 district constables into the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to augment the provision of security in resort towns across Jamaica.
According to a release from the JCF, the district constables, who were selected from the parishes of Kingston, Portland, St Ann, St James, Trelawny and Westmoreland, as well as the JCF’s Community Safety and Security Branch, will be graduating at a ceremony at the National Police College of Jamaica in Twickenham Park, St Catherine following six weeks of training. They will be strategically deployed in areas that have consistent influx of tourists throughout the year, the JCF said.
The Police High Command and TPDCo partnered on this initiative out of the need for additional security personnel to continue to cauterize tourist harassment and crimes against foreign nationals in the island, the release added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds, who will attend the ceremony, has pledged the support of the JCF to ensure that “all goes well with the venture”.
“The JCF is in full support of securing the tourism product and enhancing the tourism experience. We are fully committed to this initiative and will protect all our citizens and all who enter our country,” said Hinds.
The Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlet and Security Minister Robert Montague are scheduled to attend the graduation.
