53-y-o drug mule to know fate next month
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A drug mule, who attempted to smuggle more than a pound of ganja to Curacao, is to know his fate next month.
Fifty-three-year-old Desmond Pearson, a resident of Browns Hall district in St Catherine, pleaded guilty to possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking steps preparatory to export ganja.
Reports are that Pearson arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport with the intention to board a flight to Curacao. Pearson was reportedly stopped and searched.
He was asked to give a urine sample based on inconsistencies in his answers. He was, however, unable to do so and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he reportedly expelled a total of 75 pellets containing vegetable matter resembling ganja. They weighed one pound eight ounces.
When he appeared in court Wednesday, his attorney told Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey that her client is extremely ill and that he suffers from diabetes and hypertension.
In addition, she requested a social enquiry report. A December 11, sentence date was subsequently set.
