Another deadly car chase

CLARENDON, Jamaica — The police have released the identity of a woman who was shot dead yesterday evening in May Pen, Clarendon.

She is Sonia Mitchell, 51, a domestic helper of Banks district in the parish.

According to the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Mitchell was one of two passengers travelling in a Toyota motorcar about 1:25 pm in the vicinity of Tollgate and St Jago Road. It is alleged that the motorcar was fired on by occupants of another motorcar, which pulled up to the vehicle.

Police officers, who were in the area, responded and were reportedly engaged in a shootout by the attackers.

The men escaped after their motorcar collided in a perimeter fence.

Mitchell and the other passenger were taken to hospital where she succumbed while undergoing treatment.

The second victim remains in critical condition at hospital.
