CDA seeks contributions for wards of Clifton Boys Home
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Child Development Agency (CDA) is seeking contributions for the 28 wards of the state who were housed at the Clifton Boys Home in Darliston, Westmoreland.
The boys were temporarily transferred to a nearby church hall after fire destroyed their residence shortly after 4:00 pm Sunday.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Floyd Green expressed relief that none of the boys sustained injury in the fire and said a team from the CDA’s Western Region had been fully mobilised to co-ordinate suitable arrangements for them.
According to a release from the ministry, the CDA is currently conducting an assessment and is providing counselling to the boys. They have also supplied hygiene kits, towels and sheets.
Meanwhile, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has also made a donation of mattresses, the release added.
The children range from six to 18 years old and are in need of clothes, school uniforms, books and other supplies, the ministry noted.
Green said the boys’ home is now in need of contributions as everything was lost.
Contributions can be made at the CDA by calling: 967-1614 or emailing: info@cda.gov.jm.
The 52-year-old home is managed by the Anglican Church.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
