Carib Cement implements temporary solutions amid cement shortage
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Caribbean Cement Company (Carib Cement) today disclosed that it has implemented temporary solutions in a bid to ease a shortage of cement on the local market.
According to a statement today from the company, more than 75,000 bags of cement were delivered to the market, with an additional 80,000 bags delivered to a local supplier via ship during the period April 7 to 9.
Carib Cement also said cement exports have been suspended to focus all resources and efforts on meeting and prioritising the local market.
In addition, the cement company disclosed that it has also received an additional 75,000 bags from a sister plant and another 150,000 bags are set to be delivered over the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, customers are being advised that the company will be maintaining its current price on bagged cement to the retail trade.
“The implemented solutions along with investments and scheduled maintenance to improve efficiency will result in the needed improvement in the packaging area. These initiatives will address the recent market concerns and will ensure stability in the local market,” the company added
