Comic backlash for Jack Warner
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (Trinidad Express) – In more bad news for Trinidad and Tobago’s international image, British comedian John Oliver has asked for five minutes of your time on television tonight.
Oliver, host of Last Week Tonight on HBO, has purchased five minutes of airtime on TV6 to bring his programme to the hometown of Jack Warner, embattled former FIFA vice-president.
Warner is wanted in the United States on charges of corruption and money laundering related to his activities as FIFA vice-president and is also on Interpol’s red notice list.
On his programme aired on the weekend, Oliver spoke of Warner’s seven-minute address to the nation entitled “Jack Warner: The Gloves are Off”, in which Warner claimed he “compiled a series of documents, including cheques and corroborated statements” and placed them in “unexpected hands,” putting all his alleged FIFA co-conspirators on watch.
