Consultations on renaming of Denbigh High School under way
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Education Ruel Reid says consultations on the renaming of Denbigh High School in Clarendon, to Mike Henry High in honour of the current Central Clarendon member of Parliament, are now under way.
Speaking with reporters and editors at the Jamaica Observer today, Reid said that the request has not yet reached his desk but that a group has written to the ministry proposing that the school’s name be changed.
The minister explained that once the due diligence is completed, he will be presented with the findings for review and determination as to whether to take the next step.
“Those are major public decisions and we really don’t want to offend anyone so it requires full consultation with all the stakeholders involved, and then there has to be a submission to Cabinet and we also report to Parliament for the endorsement before we effect that change,” Reid said Monday.
