Cops get first batch of pre-owned vehicles today
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of National Security Robert Montague will this afternoon handover the first batch of pre-owned motor vehicles to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
Montague earlier promised to have the first batch of 50 vehicles delivered in late September.
The minister first divulged Government’s plan to purchase used cars for the police force in March at a town hall meeting in Westmoreland.
He argued that the Government could purchase, for example, 400 used vehicles for the price of 100 new vehicles in order to stretch its limited resources.
However, Opposition spokesperson on national security, Peter Bunting, dismissed used vehicles as an unsuitable option for the rigours of police work.
However, Montague contended that if pre-owned vehicles were good enough for taxi operators, then the JCF did not always have to use brand new vehicles.
The minister later announced that he had the full support of the Opposition with his plan.
