Cops probe social media post warning of police impersonators
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Police say they have launched an investigation into reports that a group of gunmen are travelling around in a motor vehicle impersonating police officers.
Authorities say they first heard about the development via social media.
The lawmen say while they are still trying to ascertain the veracity of the reports they will be carrying out their own investigation in the matter.
“We have heard the reports and are doing our own checks,” a member of the Jamaica Constable Force told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Posts on several social media sites read: “Please be very careful there is a white Nissan Tiida going around impersonating police. There are three or four gunmen on board.
“They have the blue lights flashing sometimes they have government yellow plates and sometimes white,” the post stated.
The post warns that the men are all armed.
