Cops under microscope after 9 prisoners escape lock-up
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police are reporting that officers attached to the Denham Town Police Station have been interdicted following the escape of nine prisoners from the Denham Town lock-up early this morning.
According to the communications arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Corporate Communications Unit, about 7:30 am, during a routine cell check, the men were discovered missing. The police say they escaped by cutting a ventilation grille.
The escapees are:
• Theodore Lawrence, 23, otherwise called ‘Theo’, of Baugh Path, Tivoli Gardens, Kingston 14, who was charged with murder.
• Kevin Thomas, 26, otherwise called ‘Tatan’ of McKenzie drive, Tivoli Gardens, Kingston 14, who was charged with wounding with intent and shooting with intent.
• Oshane Morgan, 19, otherwise called ‘Grey beard’, Oxford Street, Denham Town, Kingston 14, who was charged with robbery and illegal possession of firearm.
• Richard Richardson, 22, otherwise called ‘Ritchie’ of Golden Heights, Denham Town, Kingston 14, who was charged with shooting with intent.
• Alex Bailey, 23, of Majesty Gardens, Kingston 11, who was charged with murder and illegal possession of firearm.
• Ian McBean, 30, otherwise called ‘Pipe’ of Cling Cling Avenue, Kingston 11, who was charged with murder.
• Stephen Burke, 23, otherwise called ‘Lucious’ of Hanover Street, Spanish Town, St Catherine, who was charged with affray, malicious destruction of property and assaulting police.
• Donovan Allen, 33, otherwise called ‘Bitter’ of Johns Road, Spanish Town, St Catherine, who was charged with robbery with aggravation.
• George Ballentine, 19, of Bedward Gardens, Kingston 7, who was charged with murder and illegal possession of firearm.
The police are asking people with information that can lead to the recapture of these prisoners to contact the Denham Town police at 948-6443, Crime Stop at 311, 811, police 119 emergency number, and Stay Alert App or the nearest police station.
The police are also reminding the public that it is a criminal offence to harbour a fugitive.
