Drugs-for-guns trade cited in Westmoreland drug bust
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — The police believe that 806 pounds of compressed ganja, which was seized on Saturday in Westmoreland was part of the illicit drugs-for-guns trade between Jamaica and Haiti
Reports are that about 9:30 pm, the lawmen conducted an operation in Russia district, Savanna-la-Mar, where they found twenty-one (21) knitted plastic bags containing several parcels of compressed ganja.
The drug has an estimated street value of $3.2 million. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Commanding Officer for Narcotics Division, Senior Superintendent of Police, McArthur Sutherland says “We are of the view that this drug was intended for Haiti in support of the illegal drugs for guns trade operations between smugglers from the two nations. We pledge to continue our operations to prevent ganja from leaving our shores to fuel this illicit trade and thereby further disrupt the activities of Major Drug Trafficking syndicates”.
