Education Minister to visit troubled Padmore primary
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator Ruel Reid, will be visiting the controversial Padmore Primary School in Red Hills, St Andrew this morning.
Padmore has been at the centre of a controversy surrounding the decision of the Ministry of Education to close the institution since 2011.
Current Principal, Keisha Hayle, has tried to keep it afloat, since the Government withdrew support and set a timeline for its closure, including spending over $800,000 of her own funds to purchase a pre-owned bus to take needy children to the school, and starting a school feeding programme.
However, the lack of funding has forced Hayle to state publicly that she is thinking of giving up the job and moving on.
But Senator Reid, the new minister of education, has decided to visit the school tomorrow morning to see for himself the situation at the school.
