Eight arrested in St James lottery scam operations
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The police have reported that a total of eight people were arrested during lottery scam operations in St James, as law enforcement officials try to stem the recent upsurge of crime in the parish.
Four people were detained during pre-dawn operations in the Williamsfield area of Hampton, St James on Friday while another four were arrested yesterday in the Glendevon area.
The four Williamsfield residents – two men and two women – were taken into custody about 5:00am as the Area One Lottery Scam Taskforce carried out investigations relating to lottery scamming and other financial crimes in the area.
A BMW X6 was also seized during the raid.
This latest operation comes on the heels of yesterday’s arrest of four individuals in Long Wall, Glendevon for their suspected involvement in the illicit lottery scam.
The detainees, two males and two females, were arrested and several electronic devices seized.
