Escapee fatally shot by police in St Catherine
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A man, who escaped police custody in 2013, was fatally shot in Central Village, St Catherine early this morning during an alleged confrontation with lawmen.
Dead is 36-year-old Damion Gray, otherwise called ‘Butch’, of Shelter Rock, St Catherine.
Reports from the police are that about 4:00 am, lawmen conducted an intelligence-led operation in the area during which a confrontation ensued. It is said that Gray was later found with gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. One .45 semi-automatic pistol with two rounds of ammunition was seized during the incident.
The matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
Gray reportedly escaped police custody from the Spanish Town lock-up on Friday, April 12, 2013 where he was being held on charges of shooting with intent, receiving stolen property and assault at common law; he was also implicated in the murders of Ryan Grant, Othneil Tulloch and Joslyn Bryce, all of St Catherine addresses.
