Fireworks on the waterfront tomorrow
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has pledged to maintain a family-centred theme for this year’s ‘Fireworks on the Waterfront’ as it celebrates the first anniversary of the UNESCO declaration of Kingston as a Creative Music City.
The event, being held under the theme ‘Celebrate Good Times’, kicks off at 2:00 pm on Saturday and will continue until 1:00 am Sunday, January 1, at Ocean Boulevard in downtown Kingston.
The UDC said in a media advisory Thursday that interweaving the anniversary of the UNESCO declaration “will bring a new dimension to our voyage through Jamaica’s musical evolution, while we retain the event’s most popular features such as a Kiddies’ Fun Village inclusive of a variety of rides, Vending Village, Street Party, VIP Party and the climactic fireworks display at midnight”.
The evening promises a stellar entertainment package with performances expected from Beenie Man, Roy Rayon, Rondel Positive, Sandra Brooks, Richie Stephens and others.
The organizers say the event has grown exponentially since its inception in 1999, attracting a local and international audience of over 300,000 people on location and television viewership of over 1.5 million locally, regionally and in the Diaspora.
