Foreign affairs minister condemns killing of Russian ambassador in Turkey
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson Smith has expressed shock and sadness over yesterday’s shooting death of Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov.
In a letter to Russian Ambassador to Jamaica Vladimir Vinokurov, Johnson Smith reportedly conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica, to the family of the deceased ambassador, as well as the Government and people of the Russian Federation, “on their tragic and unfortunate loss”.
In a news release from the ministry, Johnson Smith said, “We strongly condemn this heinous act committed against a diplomat and are confident that the Turkish authorities will leave no stone unturned in the quest to bring those responsible to swift justice.”
The release said Johnson Smith also extended thoughts and prayers to Ambassador Karlov’s family, and the government and people of Russia, at this difficult time.
