Former permanent secretary in OPM joins JNBS
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Onika Miller has joined the team at the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) as Executive with responsibility for Government Relations and Public Policy.
Her appointment became effective on October 20.
Miller, who brings nearly two decades of experience in management in the public sector to the organisation, will focus primarily on strategically engaging ministries and public sector agencies at various levels to advance the interests of JNBS and its subsidiaries, General manager Earl Jarrett said.
“Her responsibility will include forging and maintaining diverse relationships that will redound to maintaining a positive profile for JN; effectively promote and protect our interests, and identify and develop new business for the JN Group,” Jarrett announced.
He said that her experience and track record in management at the highest level in the public sector would add meaningful value and capacity to the JN Group.
Miller last served as the permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, a position which she held for nearly six years under the leadership of three prime ministers, prior to demitting office on October 1, 2015.
In that capacity, she provided technical support to the prime minister and oversaw some 35 public entities.
Ms Miller says in her new post at JNBS she will be working closely with regulators and agencies, locally and overseas, to assist JN to forecast and anticipate legislative changes and measures; as well as cement and foster relationships, while leveraging opportunities for the organisation and its subsidiaries, the release continued.
“Those are some of the areas that lend themselves readily to my experience and skills set,” she said. “What I plan to do is to put policy into action, for it to be meaningful; and add value, which will ultimately be profitable for our business lines,” she maintained.
