Gay man gets six months in prison for assaulting cops
KINGSTON, Jamaica — One of the homosexuals who took refuge in New Kingston’s Shoemaker Gully was today (Friday, September 19) sentenced to six months in prison after he was charged for assaulting two police officers during a raid in the gully almost a month ago.
Edgeton Harris, 23, of a Spanish Town address was sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Deputy Superintendent Christopher Murdock told the court that on August 22, he was attacked when he and a team of officers went into the gully in search of a man who was believed to have robbed a man of $100,000 and a tablet computer.
“Him chuck on me and I fell to the ground,” the cop said in reference to Harris.
The sergeant told the court that Harris also attacked another officer who came to his assistance and pushed her to the ground causing her to suffer bruises to her body.
