ST GEORGE’S, Grenada — Jamaica’s Under-17 coaching staff a short while ago won an appeal to have a red card sanctioned to Canadian-based player Alyssa Julien rescinded.

Confirmation of the turnover came from members of CONCACAF via email to team manager Jean Nelson.

The coaching staff led by head coach Lorne Donaldson, made an appeal against the wrongful ejection of Julien in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship Group B fixture against Cost Rica on Sunday.

The young Reggae Girlz, who were leading the contest 2-1 prior to the blunder, went on to lose 2-3.

Julien, who replaced Lyana Steele in the 55th minute of the encounter, was wrongfully shown a yellow card for a foul committed by captain Rachel Walters in the 64th minute and was then shown a second yellow and in the 70th minute and was sent off by Salvadorian referee Sandra Benitez. 

However, Walters has now rightfully been sanctioned the contentious yellow card and Julien is also on a yellow.

As a result of the turnover, Julien is now set to start in the team’s final fixture against Mexico today at 3:30 pm (2:30 pm Jamaica time). 

The Under-17 Girlz are at the foot of the four-team standing without a point. The USA head the table on six points and have already secured a spot in the semi-finals, while Costa Rica and Mexico are on three points each.
