Guyana judge sentences 4 men to 81 years each for murder
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) – A High Court judge has sentenced four men to 81 years each in prison after they were found guilty of murdering a 72 year-old woman four year ago.
Justice Navendra Singh imposed the sentence on Kevin October, Roy Jacobs, and brothers Orwin and Cleon Hinds, after the jury took less than four hours to find them guilty of killing Clementine Fiedkou-Parris on June 30, 2011.
They will be eligible for parole after serving 45 years.
The prosecution said the murder appeared to have been a hit and the men were paid GUY$400,000 to carry out the act. It is believed that the woman was murdered because she had refused to sell her property.
The woman was killed as she responded to a call outside her home.
The men denied any involvement in the killing with one of them saying he was in police custody at the time of the murder.
October said that the prosecution failed to prove that he was in custody at the time of the killing.
