Handcart man dies after being hit by JUTC bus
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A handcart operator today succumbed to injuries he received when he was hit by a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus along the Mandela Highway near Central Village, St Catherine on Monday.
The identity of the deceased is not yet known.
The JUTC in a release this afternoon said according to preliminary reports, a JUTC driver was travelling along the Central Village main road heading to Kingston about 6:45 pm where a man pushing a handcart, who was said to be wearing dark clothing, suddenly came into the path of the bus.
He was hit by the unit and sustained injuries.
JUTC said he was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
They added that passengers who were travelling on the bus did not sustain any injuries and police are investigating the matter.
