Holness says Jamaicans want to get rid of PNP govt
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Opposition Leader Andrew Holness says that his current campaign tours are proving that Jamaicans want to be done with the People’s National Party (PNP) government in light of the high level of poverty and the lack of growth Jamaica has been experiencing.
Speaking to a large crowd of supporters at a political rally in Richmond, St Mary, last night, Holness said that Jamaicans are realising that, in contrast to the PNP, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has a history of growing the country and believes in shared prosperity.
He urged Jamaicans to become missionaries for change, by exercising their franchise and voting for better representation in Jamaica’s Parliament.
Holness promised to personally lead the growth charge, when the JLP forms the next government.
In a reference to Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, Holness said in these modern times the CEO of the country must make it her responsibility to seek out investors, and have them invest in the country in order to achieve growth.
He added that Simpson Miller was not “the Queen of Jamaica”, and as Prime Minister she had an obligation to work to make the lives of Jamaicans better.
He said that whenever the Prime Minister travels, it should be in an effort to convince investors to come to Jamaica. However, he said that from all Simpson Miller’s travels, the country is yet to reap any meaningful benefits.
“We don’t believe in borrowing what we don’t need, and spending what we don’t have,” Holness said, as he promised that a JLP administration would show much more fiscal responsibility.
