Hydel and Monymusk chase historic prep school cricket title
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Victory for either Hydel or Monymusk preparatory schools sees the winner becoming the first team to claim the Maurice Foster trophy twice in the history of prep school cricket.
Defending champions Hydel of Surrey and 2009 national champions Monymusk of Middlesex lock horns in the final of the 2013 Scotiabank Prep School Cricket Competition at Nelson Oval, Lucas Cricket Club today (June 21).
Match time is 11:00 am, with a presentation of awards afterwards, set for 3:00 pm.
Hydel are faviourites to win, having retained two of their best players in Sachin Simms and Renako Gentles, both instrumental in helping them claim their first national title last year.
Victory for Hydel, who won their third County title this season, would also see them being the first team to make a successful defence of the national title.
Meanwhile Monymusk remains the only team to bring the Maurice Foster trophy outside of Surrey and the three-time Middlesex champs have the enviable task of once more rewriting history.
Dave Francis and Romaine Silva have been consistent throughout for the Clarendon side and they will be required to be at their very best if they are to deny Hydel taking back-to-back titles.
Hydel will however, remember that bitter defeat in the final four years ago, as it was they who were on the losing end when Monymusk registered its first national triumph.
Since its creation, the Scotiabank Prep School Cricket has produced five national youth players namely: Brandon King, Christopher Tufton Jr, Abhijai Mansingh, Saad Ahmed and Jason Tapper.
