INDECOM probes death of Trench Town man
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating this morning’s killing of a man after a team of approximately 71 police officers entered the Trench Town area of Kingston.
Andrew Gayle otherwise called “Boysie was reportedly shot dead by police about 6:00 am.
However, INDECOM says there are discrepancies between the accounts of the incident given by the police and that of the residents.
According to an INDECOM release, the police were conducting a special joint operation in the Trench Town area in search of wanted men, illegal guns and ammunitions. The team comprised police officers from the Denham Town Police Station and Mobile Reserve.
Some of the officers from the team entered premises on Fourth Street, off Collie Smith Drive in Kingston and accosted a man who allegedly engaged the police officers – twice. The engagement concluded in the man being shot and injured.
He was reportedly taken to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) where he was pronounced dead. The police reported to the Commission that a firearm was recovered from the injured man.
INDECOM says that one of its teams is still on the scene of the incident collecting information and interviews with police personnel and civilians are currently being conducted at different locations.
The commission also says that its forensic team processed the scene and the body of the deceased.
