Increased rainfall expected across Jamaica on weekend
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A trough induced by a strong tropical wave over the central Caribbean is expected to influence weather conditions across the island tomorrow and Sunday, according to the Meteorological (Met) Service of Jamaica.
In the meantime, the centre of Tropical Storm Gaston was located 1,610 km east southeast of Bermuda, the Met Service said.
The Met Service said that while the system now has a 30 per cent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone it is expected to continue moving west northwest and across the north eastern coast of Cuba tonight (Friday) through to Sunday.
The forecast is for periods of showers and thunderstorms, which could be heavy at times to affect sections of most parishes.
Maximum sustained winds are near 100 km/h with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Gaston is expected to regain hurricane intensity on Saturday.
Gaston is not a threat to Jamaica.
