JUTC apologises for SmarterCard blunder
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is apologising for adult fares of $100 being taken from the SmarterCards of student concession passengers on its buses since this morning.
In a news release Monday, the JUTC said the situation has arisen “owing to the wrong date being applied for the start of adult fares for students for the Christmas break from school”.
The State-owned bus company said the mix-up is being “rectified” and that it will be back to normal tomorrow morning.
JUTC advised that affected students should take their tickets to the JUTC offices where the $70 difference between the adult fare and the $30 students’ fare, will be credited to their SmarterCards.
JUTC offices are located at the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre, East Parade in downtown Kingston, Shop 126B, Greater Portmore Shopping Centre, and the Spanish Town Lay-by as well as the JUTC Mobile Units, the release said.
Meanwhile, JUTC advised that the Christmas school break starts on Monday, December 21.
