JUTC diverts buses from Spanish Town Road
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Urban Transport Company (JUTC) says that in light of an upsurge in violence in West Kingston, they have detoured many of their routes that traverse that section of the city
Communications manager at JUTC Reginald Allen told OBSERVER ONLINE that all routes that go downtown via the Spanish Town Road corridor have been left impacted by the violence.
“We have had to divert them all on to Marcus Garvey Drive which was already a problem for us because of the challenges posed by the ongoing improvement works there, so that has slowed us up a bit,” Allen said.
“Buses which normally run on Spanish Town Road from the [Coronation] market district down to a little below Marcus Garvey Drive had to be diverted [to] Greenwich Road in order to get back on to Spanish Town Road stoplight,” Allen said.
He stated that these measures were implemented to avoid the tense environment.
“… and similarly in going downtown now, we had to divert at Collie Smith Drive and find our way around Retirement Crescent to get downtown as against going straight on Spanish Town Road,” Allen said
