Jamaica Customs Agency acquires additional boats
KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — The Jamaica Customs Agency has acquired three additional vessels to assist in the protection of the nation’s borders.
In an interview with JIS News, Commissioner of Customs, Major (Ret’d) Richard Reese, said the vessels were acquired from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). “They are currently being refurbished and fitted with engines,” he noted.
Major Reese said upon completion of the refurbishing work, the agency will have in its possession four small boats to do surveillance within the ports.
“We also have a base at Port Antonio and one at Black River, but those do not have seagoing vessels,” he said.
The commissioner pointed out that the three vessels will be deployed at the Black River wharf, Port Antonio and at the Kingston harbour.
Major Reese said the partnership with the JCF will ensure that the agency is effectively able to address risk management, particularly at sea.
