Man’s arm severed in Spur Tree crash
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Two men have been hospitalised, one in critical condition after his right arm was severed, when an out-of-control truck overturned on the Spur Tree Hill main road in Manchester on Saturday.
Preliminary reports are that shortly after 4:00 pm, both men were traveling in a truck transporting rice when the driver lost control of the unit.
Surveillance cameras captured the out-of-control truck as it veered off the roadway and onto a property before overturning.
Police said the man whose arm was severed was a passenger in the truck. He and the driver of the truck were transported to hospital where they have been admitted.
The truck was then looted with people removing multiple bags of rice from the vehicle.
The Spur Tree main road links Mandeville and its environs to St Elizabeth and points west. Heavily laden, slow-moving trucks often hinder traffic on the steep, difficult hill, and there have been a number of fatal crashes involving trucks over the years.
