A Kingston salesman was hauled before the court for reportedly breaking his neighbour’s arm, after he saw her and his sister talking about him bathing outside in a tenement yard where he could be seen by minors.

Donovan Rhooms, 56, of Franklyn Town was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm after he reportedly used a metal bar to hit the 54-year-old complainant, breaking her right arm.

Last Friday when he was brought before the court, he was without legal representation, and as a result, was not pleaded. He was remanded.

Allegations are that on October 3, the complainant and the accused man’s sister were both at home in the tenement yard where they lived in Franklyn Town, when the sister approached the complainant and started talking about Rhooms.

The sister reportedly mentioned that her brother had showered out in the open the previous day and questioned how he could do that when the complainant has two young daughters living inside the yard.

Rhooms reportedly overheard the women conversing and started swearing, then attacked the complainant, the court heard further.

During the confrontation, Rhooms reportedly used a metal bar to break the complainant’s arm.

According to the police, Rhooms said he was tired of the complainant “chatting him”.

The accused is scheduled to return to court on October 28.
