A man was hauled before the court last week for reportedly attacking his ‘babymother’ because she turned down his drink offer at a party.

Dominic Spence was recently arrested and charged with assault at common law following allegations that he used a knife to poke the complainant in her forehead.

The complainant told the court that on the night in question, she was at a party when Spence sent one his friends to ask her if she wanted a drink and she told him no.

“Likkle after dat him send somebody come ask me again and me say no,” she said.

The complainant said that after the party she left and went to another party and while on her way home Spence called out to her and she did not answer.

She told the court that he then walked up to her and said: “Wait, yuh think yuh can tek man fi fool’ and pulled a knife and used it to poke her in her forehead.

However, he denied assaulting the complainant.

“You did not poke her with the knife?” Senior Parish Judge Judith Pusey asked.

“Negative,’ he answered.

But Spence said: “Me pull the knife of course.”

The judge then explained to him that he had committed an offence by just pulling the knife, as his actions would have caused the complainant to be fearful.

He then told the court: “You know why I was calling her? ‘Cause I have a money to give her for my child.”

“But if you have a money to give her, you don’t call her at a dance,” Judge Pusey told him.

The judge then said that she believed that he was angry at the complainant because she had refused to accept his drink and did not answer when he called her.

But Spence said that he felt slighted because she did not answer when he sent to ask about the drink.

“When me send go ask her bout the drink me neva get nuh ansa,” he said.

But the complainant told the court that she told his friend to tell him that she did not want him to buy her any drink.

“Why you was frassing like that?” Judge Pusey asked.

“Because she is your babymother and you call her she is suppose to come, she can’t tek man fi fool,” she added.

The complainant told the court that she did not love Spence anymore and had no intention of resuming their relationship because he had done a lot of things to her.

“You see me a try work out something for you but she nah tek nuh check,” Judge Pusey told Spence, sparking laughter in the room.

His bail was then extended for him to return to court on May 24.
