Manchester pastor charged with rape
Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth — A Moravian pastor alleged to have had sexual intercourse with a 15 year-old girl on the night of Wednesday, December 28, 2016 has been formally charged with statutory rape, police say.
He has been identified as 64-year-old Robert Clarke, a longstanding minister of the Moravian Church, based in Manchester.
Clarke is expected to go before the court sometime next week, police said.
The allegations are that about 9:00 pm on December 28, a motorised police patrol in the deep-rural community of Austin in Myersville, south east St Elizabeth, close to the Alpart plant in Nain, came upon a parked car in a secluded area. Further inspection revealed the pastor and the 15 year-old in what the police describe as a “compromising position”.
Investigators said last week that they were following further leads as a result of allegations that the pastor may have been involved in similar behaviour previously.
