Manchester police searching for gun used in attempted robbery
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — The Manchester police say they are still searching for the firearm used in an attempted robbery in the parish today.
“We are still trying to find the weapon,” head of the Manchester division, Superintendent Vendolyn Cameron-Powell told OBSERVER ONLINE Wednesday.
Police reports are that two men posed as passengers and boarded a taxi on Caledonia Road in Mandeville, about 6:00 am.
Along the journey, one reportedly brandished a gun and attempted to rob the taxi driver.
However, the motor vehicle crashed into an embankment and one of the gunmen reportedly succumbed to injuries caused by the impact.
Cameron-Powell said that the deceased is about 45-years-old and of a Porus address.
She said too that police are trying to confirm the age of his colleague, who is in custody.
He reportedly told the police he is a 17-year-old high school drop-out.
The taxi driver was reportedly able to relate what happened when the police arrived at the scene of the crash Wednesday.
There are no reports of him being injured by the gunmen or in the crash.
