Moneague Division magisterial recount gets under way
ST ANN, Jamaica — Parish Judge Vaughn Facey has ruled that a magisterial recount in the Moneague Division of St Ann will proceed.
Facey made the decision after listening to arguments made by attorneys representing both candidates Thursday afternoon.
The Jamaica Labour Party sought to have the matter thrown out, stating that the request for a recount was made outside the stipulated time of four days.
Judge Facey, in making his ruling, said the court would have been closed on a Saturday, hence that day would not be counted among the four days.
Delroy Kelly of the Jamaica Labour Party was declared the winner of the division by 13 votes over the People’s National Party’s Lloyd Garrick. Following the November 28 local government election.
The recount is now under way.
