Montague to make statement on crime in Parliament today
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of National Security Robert Montague is expected to make a statement on crime in the House of Representatives today.
His address precedes a press conference in St James, where Commissioner of Police Dr Carl Williams will speak on matters concerning the recent upsurge of violence in the parish.
Former Minister of National Security and People’s National Party (PNP) spokesman for the portfolio, Peter Bunting, said yesterday that the recent flare-up of violence in sections of St James has shown that Montague is not “fully engaged” with the portfolio.
The murder tally in St James hit the 200 mark Tuesday after a man was shot dead by unknown assailants on Barnett Street in Montego Bay.
The killing comes despite the increased police/ military presence in the city.
