More pregnant women test positive for Zika
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Health has confirmed that two more pregnant women have tested positive for the Zika virus.
This brings the number to four after two women were, earlier this month, reported to have tested positive for the virus.
Manager public relations and communications at the ministry, Fiona Fennell, confirmed this but was unable to provide further details.
With the Zika virus being linked to microcephaly, a condition in which an infant’s head is smaller than the heads of other children of the same age and sex, pregnant women are being closely monitored.
The health ministry also announced recently that all pregnant women would be tested for the virus.
The World Health Organisation indicates that as much as 70 per cent of the population of a country may be infected over time.
