Motorcyclist among 3 killed in traffic collisions Friday

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A motorcyclist was among three people killed within hours of each other in traffic collisions across the island on Friday.

Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar Police are that about 8:00 pm, Evan Anderson, 26, of Sterling district, Westmoreland, was driving a Jamco motorcycle along the One Stick main road in Westmoreland. On reaching a section of the roadway, he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and fell, sustaining multiple injuries.

He died at hospital while being treated.

The second victim, 54-year-old Charles Vernon of Albion Lane, St James, sustained injuries when he was involved in a motor vehicle collision along Union Street in the vicinity of UGI car park, also in St James.

Information received from the Barnett Street Police is that about 9:35 pm, Vernon was walking along the roadway when he was hit by a Toyota Corolla motor car, which reportedly fled the scene.

The police were summoned and Vernon was taken to hospital where he died.

The third person, 49-year-old Morris Bennett, a farmer of Hamilton Mountain, St Mary was killed in a two-vehicle crash about 10:15 pm, on the Boscobel main road in the parish.

The Oracabessa Police, who are investigating, say Bennett was driving a Toyota Hiace minibus towards Oracabessa when on reaching a section of the roadway, the motor bus collided with a Toyota Dyna motor truck that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Both drivers received multiple injuries and were taken to hospital where Bennett died while being treated. The other man was admitted in serious condition.
