North-South toll discount to last one month
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Motorists using the North-South Leg of Highway 2000 will benefit from the 25 per cent discount on the proposed rates for a one month period.
This, according to the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, is as the Government continues its negotiations with the developers, to arrive at an Equilibrium Toll that would be economically viable for the Toll Road Operators and affordable for the motoring public.
The new toll rates came into effect midnight Wednesday. The discounted rates were arrived at following two days of negotiations between the government and the toll road developers. The discount was announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday at the official opening ceremony held at the Caymanas Toll Plaza.
In the meantime, motorists are being reminded to ensure that they receive a toll card at the entry point to the highway from the toll clerk. Thereafter, they will proceed along their journey until they arrive at the exit toll plaza. At this point, the toll card should be given to the toll clerk who will input the information into the system that will determine the toll to be paid. This is calculated based on the class of the vehicle and the entry point to the High Way.
